What MUST you do to be saved?
There is nothing more important than how you answer this question. I know that's heavy huh? But, if you and I are eternally separated from God and destined for hell (I'm assuming you believe this statement and I'm not attempting to prove this point in this blog... I'll save that for another day) then knowing what we MUST do to be saved is outrageously important!
Would you use any of these to answer the question?
- Be a good person
- Do more good than bad
- Pray the "Prayer of Salvation"
- Go to church
- Try to help as many people as you can
- Repent
I could continue giving options for how to answer this question, but if we want to know the truth about how to answer this question we're going to have to read the Bible.
Romans 10:13-14, For “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher.
#1 You MUST "Hear the Gospel" to be Saved
The first thing we must to to be saved is to "Hear the Gospel". No one comes to the knowledge of the Gospel on their own. Whether you read the Bible, attend church, or talk to a friend, you have to hear the Gospel in order to be saved.
Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
#2 You MUST "Believe the Gospel" to be Saved
After you hear the Gospel you have to believe the Gospel in order to be saved. The Gospel is "Good News!" The Gospel can be summarized by the following points:
- EVERYONE has sinned.
- Sin DESERVES to be punished.
- Someone MUST pay the price for your sin.
- Jesus is God. Jesus was sinless. Jesus died for our sins and was raised from the dead.
- Jesus sits as RULER and JUDGE over all. We will all be JUDGED by Him.
Acts 2:37-38, Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
#3 You MUST "Repent" to be Saved
Repentance is a change in mind which produces a change in action. Repentance is a byproduct of truly believing the Gospel and it's so much more than simply repeating a prayer or raising your hand during an "altar call." Repentance is proven by your actions, not your confession.
I hope you read this with an open mind and heart! This is to big to get wrong.
